What's Up With Wally?
Wally is our resident Roadrunner. We inherited him; he came with the motel.
He comes around every day for a hand out: a bit of fresh groundbeef; a piece of hot dog; chicken innards (mmmm ... yum); cat food. He sits outside our door, or on our porch swing, or up on the roof, or in the tree just outside our bedroom window and cackles like a chicken to let us know he's out there, ready to be fed. About month ago I finally got him to take food from me ... not the sort of thing you want to teach an animal in the wild, but he's Wally, and who am I to turn my back on a Roadrunner?
Wally's daily routine changed recently: he showed up with a mate. We have named her Dolly. Now they both show up, cackling, clattering their mandibles, even cooing softly ... I suspect they would tap their toes impatiently if they could. And we feed them.
There have been some strange courting antics, some ruffled feathers, a show of colors, and we are hoping there will eventually be little Wallys. We'll keep you informed here...

Earlier this month Wally turned up at the door for his daily handout ... as usual. However he was not alone. On this particular morning ... and every morning since ... Wally has had his girlfriend along. We've named her Dolly (of course).
They each come to the door ... Dolly first, then Wally ... get their "treat," and scamper off, food in mouth; love in the air.
We are hoping for little Wallys and Dollys.
